The Commerce Services Landscape, Q3 2023 Report

Every industry is unique and requires a variety of different services, technologies, and assets for successful omnichannel delivery.

This Forrester report provides an overview of 35 commerce services providers. Forrester defines commerce service providers as “Providers with the expertise, assets, and alliances to help companies craft end-to-end commerce strategies and implement and operate total commerce experiences.”

The report breaks down each provider’s size, offerings, geographies, and by core and extended business scenarios. Forrester segmented providers based on commerce service revenue into three categories: large, medium, and small. Perficient is listed as a medium-sized consultancy with our industry focus being industrial products, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, and retail.

The research firm asked each provider a set of in-depth questions to develop the report, which according to Forrester, leaders can “use to understand the value they can expect from a commerce services provider, learn how providers differ, and investigate options based on size and market focus,” as well as “explore potential partners.” This report recognizes that “the market for commerce services is expanding rapidly as companies amp up their direct and digital commerce priorities.” In understanding this, it’s also important for leaders to know industry trends, tough challenges, any disruptors happening in the market, and no one knows these better than service providers.

Forrester’s report named four core business scenarios that are “frequently sought after,” including “B2C commerce, direct-to-consumer (DTC) commerce, retail commerce, and B2B commerce.” In addition to core capabilities, the report also identified extended business scenarios, one being B2B2B commerce. Forrester asked each vendor included in the Landscape to select the top use cases for which clients select them and from there determined which are the extended use cases that highlight differentiation among the vendors. Perficient is shown in the report for having selected B2B2B commerce as one of the top reasons clients work with us out of those extended use cases.  We believe this is a differentiator for us.

Based on the responses each provider gave, Forrester aggregated and shared information about each provider to help businesses determine which partner will best suit their needs.

The digital world is evolving every day, and organizations have an important choice to make when it comes to commerce solutions provider.
