“As The Bahamas sets sail on its digital transformation journey, training is the compass that guides towards boundless possibilities, serving as the gateway to progress and prosperity for Bahamian youth.”

On Wednesday, June 21st, in Nassau, Bahamas, the Avasant Foundation hosted its first in-person celebration event for 272 graduands from ten cohorts of the Avasant Digital Skills and Avasant Digital Entrepreneurship Training programs, from June 2021 to present.

Chairman and CEO of Avasant, Kevin S. Parikh shared heartfelt sentiments on the work that the Foundation continues to do within deserving communities. “It’s been nearly fifteen years that we’ve been supporting efforts in youth education on a global basis not just in the Caribbean but in Latin America and beyond.” Directly addressing the students, he said, “You are part of the digital workforce of the future, and I am thrilled to be able tell you what I am seeing today. We are on a cusp of a new era, one in which all of humanity will experience total freedom to dream and innovate regardless of their geolocation or socioeconomic circumstances.”

Adding to Kevin’s warm greetings and words of encouragement, Chitra Rajeshwari, Executive Director of the Avasant Foundation said, “As The Bahamas sets sail on its digital transformation journey, training is the compass that guides towards boundless possibilities, serving as the gateway to progress and prosperity for Bahamian youth.”

At the inaugural celebration event, there was student representation from seven of the 30 inhabited islands in the Bahamas. “I wish to applaud the Avasant Foundation for doing their part to ensure that they build a bridge for young people across The Bahamas and see to it that they are outfitted with the opportunity to receive soft and digital skills training and introducing entrepreneurship skills training as another form of job creation”, Mario K. Bowleg, Member of Parliament, and Minister of Youth, Sports, and Culture.

According to keynote speaker Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Wayde Watson, “This initiative conducted by Avasant Foundation to help upskill unemployed and under-employed Bahamians in the area of digital literacy and other soft skills is timely and paramount; congratulations to all stakeholders of the program.”

Dr. Mariah Oriakhi, VP Academic Affairs, in full praise of the Foundation’s work in The Bahamas, said “At this momentous graduation event, we’re not just celebrating academic accomplishments, but also the emergence of a digitally empowered generation that stand ready to shape the future of the Bahamas and by extension the world.”

These efforts are underpinned by the generous support of the Inter-American Development Bank. In attendance was IDB country representative Mrs. Daniela Carrera-Marquis, who said “We celebrate the graduates of the Digital Skills training programs delivered by the Avasant Foundation and funded by IDB Lab. Access to information, data management, transparency, accountability, governance, and digital skills go hand in hand.”
