PH Health Care BPO on the Rise

The Philippines’ health care information management services industry is poised to hit the $2.4 billion revenue mark by 2014, according to the Healthcare Information Management Outsourcing Association of the Philippines (HIMOAP). The country’s steady economic growth drives it to become one of the global leaders in health care business process outsourcing (BPO).

HMOAP president Josefina V. Lauchangco projects employment of 120,000 workers in the healthcare information management industry by 2006. Lauchangco added that the talent pool of about 250,000 nursing graduates in the country presents many opportunities in global healthcare services, attracting a good number of global companies to invest in the Philippines.

Lauchangco said that the Philippines could be one of the top global leaders in health care BPO with a highly-trained workforce. She cited the need to enable talent by creating programs that would give workers the necessary skills.

The HMOAP exec added that the training programs currently offered are limited to jobs like medical coding, medical transcription and mentioned the need to expand to other services such as data analytics and health care information technology.
