Honoring Our Military Families On Veterans Day

Today, we celebrate Veterans Day and recognize and honor the work and sacrifices of our many military families. During these difficult times, we’re proud to offer flexible, work-from-home opportunities for our many U.S. service families, both at the corporate level and as part of our independent contractor network.

Working from home is part of our DNA. For almost 25 years, both employees and contractors have enjoyed the flexibility and work-life balance that remote work provides.

Consisting of remote customer service representatives, our contractor network stories illustrate how this unique work suits military lifestyles and provides benefits not available from any other type of opportunity. Here we’ve highlighted the stories of the Crawford and Taylor families.

Flexibility Suits Military Lifestyle

Jaimee Crawford’s husband served in the Army National Guard for 20 years, including one tour of Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. One deployment lasted almost two years. Jaimie learned that she could be alone, fix things around the house, parent well on her own and run on less sleep than she thought was necessary.

Working from home and having a flexible schedule are an amazing fit for the changing lifestyle a military family creates. Jaimie’s family has moved to different states twice and now lives in St. Louis. They have managed a busy family with two children while both parents took time individually to go back to school and take specific training courses over the years.

Jaimee’s husband received specialized technology education after leaving the army and now works for a hospital. She returned to school at St. Mary’s University and completed a degree in human resources management. After working from home for seven years, Jamie is now a special resource for others in similar roles.

I majored in HR with a focus on employee development, and I appreciate the role I have in helping to develop fellow agents spread across the map to be the best that they can be,” said Jaimee. “I love the community feeling we have. I feel very close to many colleagues and appreciate the support and care I see every day.

Building a Second Career

This family example shows how a veteran developed a second career. Andree Taylor served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam era when there were very few women Marines. Her service took Andree to South Carolina, Quantico, Virginia and Iwakuni, Japan, home of the 1st Marine Air Wing.

These experiences solidified her desire to build a career that allowed her to include her passion for travel. When her enlistment ended, she used her veterans’ benefits to attend the McConnell School of Travel in Minneapolis. Andree worked for two airlines, several hotel chains and then began working as a remote agent serving an online travel services company.

Being an independent contractor enables her to maintain control of her own schedule and work plans. As the pandemic became a major challenge for the travel industry, she began serving an online real estate client, and she is planning a trip with her daughter to see Downton Abbey when the coronavirus situation allows.

For many retired and acting military individuals and families, working from home as a customer service agent provides income and opportunities to help others. And in doing so, they serve not only their country, but citizens as well. We can’t thank them enough for helping our clients and their customers.
